What a great tour! Our longest, most grueling day was driving from our dear friendsʻ home in Virginia all the way to Boston, an 8-hour drive, and then playing 2 back to back shows at Club Passim.
The next day, we drove to NYC to play another show that same night. We did this 6 days/shows in a row. Very fatiguing. Sonny Lim drove, and Herb Ohta Jr. was the navigator. Nancy and I were cruising in the back seat. The luggage was bulky. Packing our van was like a Tetris game with 7 big suitcases heavy with merchandise, 4 carry-on suitcases, my food bag, plus 2 big guitars, a lap steel guitar, and Herb’s ukulele. Lots of luggage wrestling. This is the "work" part of "playing music."
Sonny & Herb are Japanese food aficionados, and so we especially liked eating at Japanese and sushi restaurants where we enjoyed their many stories of touring Japan.
